Archaeus Ensemble

The ARCHAEUS workshop of contemporary music, of “Tinerimea Romana” National Cultural Center in Bucharest, came into being in October 1985. They engaged in an intense activity of new music promotion, by participating in numerous musical events in Romania, Albania, Austria, Bulgarie, The Czech Republic, Denmark England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Macedonia, Moldavia, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Serbia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ukraine, U.S.A., as well as in a lot of other festivals which took place in Romania (: “George Enescu” – Bucharest, “SIMN” – Bucharest, “Meridian” – Bucharest, “Contemporary Music Days” – Bacau, “Cluj-Modern”, “Craiona Muzicala” “Festum Musicae”- Iasi “Timisoara Muzicala”, “Inter-Media” – Arad), and abroad (:“Spaziomusica” – Cagliari, “Antidogma Musica” – Torino, Huddersfield Festival, “Romaeuropa”, “Musique en Scène” – Lyon, “ENSEMS” – Valencia, “Spring in Bratislava”, “New Music Days” – Chisinau, “Extasis” – Geneve, “Synthesis” – Bourges, “Music of our Age” – Budapest, “Trieste Prima”, “Musica Nova” – Sofia, “International, Review of Contemporary Music’ – Belgrad, “Time of Music” – Viitasaari, “Alpi Marittime” – Ormea, “New Chamber Music” – Tirana, “Moscow Autumn”, ”Incontri con la Musica Contemporanea” – Bergamo, “Aspekte” – Salzburg, “FIMCA” – Alicante, “Days of Macedonian Music” – Skopje, “Neue Musik-Neue Klänge” – Köln, “Jours de Musique Contemporaine” – Blois etc). They rendered over 700 works, belonging to about 380 composers. Also, ARCHAEUS has recorded almost 30 CDs, thousands of minutes of Radio and TV recordings and has recorded soundtracks for over 20 movies. The ensemble also approaches old Byzantine music, classical music, jazz and film music.

Prizes and awards: The ATM prize for the quality of the presentation of several Romanian first auditions (1987); The UCMR prize (1990); The Romanian Music Critics’ Award (1991); The UCMR prize for promoting Romanian contemporary music (1992); The SOROS prize (1997); The Merit Diploma “Charm of the Lower Danube” – Bratislava (2001), The Gratitude Diploma “Mitropolia Banatului” – Timisoara (2002); The Merit Diploma “Nicolas Constantin Fotino” (2004); The Honor Diploma “Filarmonica Banatul” in Timisoara (2004); The Medal of Honor “Hochschule für Musik – München (2005); The Cultural Merit Medal (2005); The Union of Romanian Composers and Musicologists Award (2006).
Since 1997,  Archaeus ensemble organizes the “Archaeus” festival in every October in Bucharest.
