Horia Andreescu
For many years director of the Radio musical ensembles, founder of Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra in Bucharest, Horia Andreescu is now the main conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra. His studies in composition and conducting with excellent teachers at the National University of Music Bucharest, with Hans Swarovski and Karl Österreicher at the Vienna Music Academy and his classes with Sergiu Celibidache have constituted a solid base for his training as a conductor.
Horia Andreescu’s work with orchestras in Romania and abroad has materialised in over 60 recordings already available on the music market—sixteen of which were recorded with orchestras in Europe. So, there are recordings with Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Germany, where he was a Permanent Guest Conductor for thirteen years, with Dresdner Philharmonie where he held the same position for ten years and with Staatskapelle Schwerin where he was a conductor for 21 years. His most recent compact discs include: a CD disc edited by CPO for Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin in 2007, a CD recorded by Hastedt with Pascal Bentoiu’s works and Andreescu at the head of Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln in 2004, a CD by Electrecord with works by Dvorak and Musorgski-Funtek and the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in 2008 and another one with Paul Constantinescu’s Easter Byzantine Oratorio and the National Orchestra for Radio under the Casa Radio label.
The integral set of Enescu’s works on eight compact discs, edited by Electrecord and Olympia, London and well broadcast, have consistently contributed to the renown of the composer from Tokyo to New York.
Horia Andreescu’s collaboration with other orchestras, such as London Symphony Orchestra, Wiener Symphoniker, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the philharmonics of Amsterdam and Stuttgart, the symphonic orchestras of Jerusalem, Nagoya, the BBC Scottish Orchestra, the Radio Orchestras in Madrid and Leipzig, and the tours made either separately or together with the Radio National Orchestra and the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra at festivals such as Wiener Festwochen, Dresdner Festspiele, Europa Musicale München, not forgetting, of course, the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest round off the succinct presentation of the conductor.
